Salted egg yolk with prawn

This can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty in Guangdong, China. It is said that this traditional dish was originally created by small restaurants in Guangdong and was inspired by the traditional Guangdong dish “salted egg yolk steamed pork”, except that the pork was replaced with shrimp.

At that time, salted egg yolk shrimp was mainly a home-cooked dish, often used for family gatherings and festive banquets. As time passed, this delicacy gradually spread to Guangdong’s catering industry and became a popular traditional dish.

Today, salted egg yolk shrimp has become one of the classic dishes in Chinese restaurants, not only in China but also highly regarded in overseas Chinese communities.
